I am looking for some clarity as to the correct method for connecting a crane suspended personnel basket to the crane. My contention is that the masterlink should be dropped over the hook of the crane, however our AP is stating that a webbing sling should be used between the masterlink and the hook so that if the basket were to earth onto something then his method would prevent any damage back to the cranes computer.
BS EN 14502-1:2010 states:
'Suspended baskets shall be attached to the crane hook with flexible load lifting attachment(s) consisting of steel wire rope slings or chain slings complying with EN 13414-1 or EN 818-4 respectively but with an enhanced safety factor of at least:
a) 8 × (weight of basket + rated capacity) for chains; and
b) 10 × (weight of basket + rated capacity) for steel wire ropes including the end termination.'
My interpretation of that is that a webbing sling would not suffice.
I would appreciate any feedback and reference to legislation / recognised standards etc.

Ade That's a new one on me, I've never heard of a webbing sling being used between the master link and hook for that reason. IMHO the master link should always be directly attached to the hook as the man rider chains have the correct FoS for the lifting of the basket. A Nylon sling would not. But these cranes are self earthed anyway so why would you use a strop even if they were not it would not stop any earthing back to crane and why would the basket be cloe anything of risk all a bit dodgy to me go for steel wire or chains nothing else

Thanks for the responses and those who private messaged me.
I think that sometimes these practices are borne out of misinformation on sites and over time they become custom and practice
