Hi Ive a fair bit of spare time, I have skills in technical writing and a broad health and safety background accross ports, oil and gas, railways etc.  I want to do some consultancy work on ad-hoc basis.  Does anyone have any advice can share similar experiencing in consulting in their spare time?  Thanks, RB

You did not mention how the spare time has arisen - retirement, redundancy adjustment to current contract.

If thelatter check your current employment contract permits you to conduct duties for anyone other than your employer (normally a single employment clause) and be prepared to have potential client's vetted as anti-competitive clauses would likely require you to seek direct permission from your manager - after all it is unlikely they would be too happy if you were working for the competition.

If the former be careful of the tax implications and/or benefits restrictions on working.

RB - good advice from Roundtuit.

If you are in employment there might be a need to build a so called Chinese Wall to avoid conflicts of interest.

Fairly sure we have previously had spam from somebody/something with a similar feline name.
