Hi all, I work in a busy scrap metal receycling yard. We have a number of noise emitting machines/equipment, and I am looking to update our risk assessment. I'm just trying to get a feel for how people generally assess noise, I'm torn between doing this myself using a meter or appointing a 3rd party to carry out an assessment. Would you do this yourself or get the third party in?
Thanks

It depends if you deem yourself competent & have the right noise meter for the task
Personally, I would use the meter on my smart phone initally to assess what noise levels are likely to be encountered - if they are well (+3dB(A)) above / below the exposure action levels, then you will know what to expect from an external, expensive review

Hi Beesher Why not hire an integrating sound pressure meter, read the instructions and get a feel for what an external consultant is likely to find (having read up all the relevant guidance first!) Good for your CPD and will help you interpret what a consultant's report will say. P
