Hi, The company is having a new 200,000sq ft warehouse built. Will the buidling regs inspector look at the position of the assessmbly point as well as other fire safety controls?

Hi Azza - depends to some extent on what you mean by "look at". Following deregulation, Building Standards hardly "approve" anything these days - more a case of accepting (or not accepting) submitted documentation.

broadly speaking ....Building control wil look at your Fire Strategy (Pre-Occupation) and the compliance with either Buidling Regs Part B or BS 9999...in that will be the escape distances etc not necessarily assembly points...materials etc The Fire Risk Assessment (Post- Occupation) will provide the fire assembly and other measures required based on the occupation risk and use of the building... You do fall upon some good building control officers who will help you in the build but like everything else there are also some bad ones...

The building regs. are not the enemy, they will assist you with questions and point you in the right direction. They like to get stuff right first time. However I would expect your architect/designer to have the competence and experience you need to get this right.

I agree with Steve, the Fire risk assessment will identify the best place for your assessbley point once you have completed the fitout, hopefully who ever is designing your fitout is thinking about evacuation walkways
