Hi Just a quick one of peoples opinion on the following scenario, RIDDOR implications and course of action they would usually take. A peripatetic worker travels to a site for said induction (So hasnt actually started active work yet on actual site) completes induction then leaves said site to fill up with petrol. While off site filling with petrol has possible stroke or medical emergency and is taken to hospital.
Thanks in advance
Alan

I can see no work activity linked to this medical emergency - so i would say nor RIDDOR. Only course of action is to help your collegue in any way you can to return to work. Much will depend on the medical diagnosis.

Hi Spud Paid or not the induction would almost certainly be "work" within the meaning of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and thence RIDDOR. However, this incident does not appear to show any indications of being an accident associated with a work activity - EVEN if the filling operations might be "work" (depending on a number of variables).
+ there are various other criteria before RIDDOR reportable.
So, not a RIDDOR for me.
Course of action - some TLC for the worker and a return to work programme.

I agree with the other two comments from reading your post. I wonder if it wouled make any difference if the car was a company car?

well, IMO, it wasn't an injury, a disease or a dangerous occurence that was as a result of working for you, so not RIDDOR,
of course, if it was a medical emergency as a result of a (long term) occupational illness from a previous employment, then they might need to report it,
But you don't
