Does anyone know of a supplier of non-conductive (electrically) spirit levels of at least 900mm length (and preferably up to 1.8m)? I'm being instructed to source some (following an electrical near miss) and I don't think such a thing exists (though only done limited googling so far).

Seems you can have one or the other as most advertised as "non-conductive" are acrylic blocks @ 100x50mm.

The majority of tool stores seem to push a 400 - 600mm level for use by electricians.

Was the near miss a consequence of the tools length?

Yes, I found the 100mm long acrylic ones, and they are not usable (we need to reach across a 850mm gap to take a measurement frequently required, hence the 900mm minimum length, though when I was 'on the tools' I preferred a longer one).

Yes, someone reached to well inside the safe clearance from a live electrical cable with a long tool (though not a spirit level - but that's the longest thing I can't find a non-conductive alternative for).  The response (from some) was that we shall not have any long conductive tools (though without defining 'long').  I don't think that's a practicable option, but I'm doing my due diligence before reporting to the board what is or not practicable.

Have you considered a small measured piece of wood to bridge the gap and use the smaller level to do the check.

Thanks for suggestions.

I did contemplate what is essentially a 'home made' one from somerthing non-conductive and a short standard level. I thought about broom-handle with a spirit level cable-tied to it.  It's probably more prone to warping and distortion (there is probably a reason why all spirit levels are made of extruded aluminium section) but it is an option.

A laser level would be workable, and we routinely use distos.  I think it would take a little bit more juggling, but again it's an option.
