I'm working on a project which includes a pressurised water loop at ~150 bar and 300 degrees C. The obvious hazards associated with a catastrophic release of hot water from this loop is rapid vaporisation of steam with potential for thermal burns and overpressure (and possible asphyxiation risk). Intuitively one might expect the risk of thermal burns to be the principal/dominant risk, i.e. more likelihood for people exposed to the steam to be impacted by the high temperature rather than the pressure wave, but does anyone actually know which hazard would dominate?
