Happy New Year everyone,

Our machine shop manager will be retiring soon and I am looking for advice on suitable training for his replacement. It is a fairly basic old-style machine shop with the usual lathe, punches, benders, welding etc.

Can anyone recommend a suitable training or qualification that would help us demonstrate competence? It would also help us filter applicants.

Thanks

David

David - from the amount of spam we get on this forum i would delete your telephone number quickly - people can PM you if they dont want to comment on the open forum - as to the main question, will see if i can think of anything, appart from teh obviouse requirement to be trained on Grinding wheels.

David, your manager should have safety awareness on PUWER which gives him knowledge of any guarding that is required for your machines, and to assess if the welding ventilation is always adequate, he should be able to review/amend risk assessments and to give the staff refresher toolbox talks. IOSH Managing Safety might cover all that?

Thanks everyone for the advice - We are arranging for the Fab Shop and other managers to attend the IOSH Managing Safely through our insurance broker so a good result all round.
