the company is going through the application process for 'Construction Line' and one of the sections relates to Asbestos.

We're a new build developer, don't do any Asbestos work, We've sent our Asbestos Management Plan and Asbestos Awareness certs to the online portal.

these have been rejected with the comment, 'Your new uploads are not written arrangements/procedures'

Does anyone have an Asbestos Policy, (not asking for a copy, just wondering if anyone else has come up against this) ??

Hi Pirellipete,

Just another name for an asbestos management plan?

Survey, regular visual inspections to check for degradation, asbestos containing materials signage, etc.

Even though you are new build what is your documented policy for the situation where your employees discover "suspect" asbestos at a site?

In the good old days demolition typically involved shovelling the debris in to a hole on the ground.

Then you have the delights of fly-tipping of ACM when domesic clients get rid of old garages and the "man in a van" does a quick & nasty cheap job.

Hi Pirellipete

May be you need to explain to some tick boxer for ConstructionLine how you deal with the three scenarios that are the likely sources of asbestos on new build sites:

1. Ground contamination on e.g. a brownfield site (developers eating yet further into green fields are not popular!) - so as part of your development programme you would be doing site investigations and there may or may not be a formalised procedure for this or it might just be automatically recognised as a milestone in the development programme and you have to find a form of words to explain this.

2. Demolition of existing structures to clear the ground - so if pre 2000, whatever arrangements you have to make sure that Demolition Asbestos Surveys are done and taken into acccunt in demolition.

[May be you buy the site when this has already been done, so you need some mechanism to show the audit trail before]

3. Flytipping as Roundtuit mentions - so a system to provide appropriate security throughout the development programme, backed up by that Asbestos Awareness training you have mentioned.

Might need to be a little creative in your response.
