Not sure if you or anyone on the education network can help, but I have had a question raised by the head of our foundation department, who wants to open a pop up café with students from a domestic kitchen set up they have on site.  The staff have level 2 food hygiene certificates, and are planning on mimicking the processes in our catering training facility, in terms of temperature checks, risk assessment and food hygiene practices.

 I’m not sure if there is other legislation they need to follow, to comply with the Food Safety Act, and whether we need to apply for a food premises license.  The current proposal is to open two days a week for a couple of hours, selling only to staff.  Anybody got any relevant experience of a similar set up in an education setting?

They would need to follow all food hygiene legislation and register as a food business. If they go onto the Food Standards Agency website there is everything that they need to understand requirements and how to comply

Dave, doing what hopeful says is needed could be built into the curriculum.

Valuable education for what the students might need to do when they enter employment aka "vocational training".

Thanks, both.  I have had similar advice on the legal requirements from the IOSH technical help desk, basically confirming what you have suggested, and I felt was needed.  Valid point on using the experience as a piece of education over business requirements.  Appreciate the responses.
