Yes, as Roundtuit has correctly identified, I didn't open a thread on pregnancy and termination apropos of nothing.

Morning Thunderchild It has been a rather confusing thread! However the original question was about what to do about two students who were pregnant but each intending to have terminations, and whether one should do a pregnancy risk assessment as if the terminations were not planned - as I recall the OP asked whether other Forum users had come across a similar scenario. That there were two seemed to me to be entirely irrelevant to the basis of the question.

The issue might be this: a student realises that they are pregnant and inform their educational institution. The institution must then take measure to ensure that the student and the unborn child (foetus?) are kept safe as per Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. That will mean informing certain people to take those measures when dealing with that student Then the student has a termination and they will no longer be pregnant which means the measures are no longer required and people may ask why not? So how to explain what has happened without telling everybody about the termination?

I think it important to note that in the OP it said “intending to have” however until it actually happens you have to work on the basis they may change their mind (one or both of them). I don’t think I would be saying anything to anyone about it one way or another, why would anyone else need to know. Perhaps as they are likely to be away from their studies, if anything their tutors will need to be warned that they may be away and they should not be penalised for it (without giving reason).

A student will not drop out of their studies as soon as they are pregnant. Most will try to stay on as long as possible. Some will even try to do their exams a day before their due date! During their studies a student may well be exposed to hazards as biological agents, chemicals or radiation which means that extra controls may need to be taken. These need to be agreed with their tutors and other staff, so they will be a part of a small circle of people who know about the pregnancy ( they need to know- this takes in all data protection issues) but if the student decides to have a termination the staff are not really supposed to know that but they will probably work it out. I was actually thinking of only a few days potentially either side of the termination away, but that could conflict with course work etc. My point is you have to treat it as a pregnancy until it actually happens. The other thing is we don’t know the courses they are on, so may not have any COSHH issues, but they could just be on an accountancy course ( with the main risk being boredom).
