Good morning all. I work for a large civils and construction company. I recently attended the "standard" St John's 3 day first aid course and i was, lets say, less than impressed. I learnt a lot about strokes, heart attacks, poisoning, seizures, minor cuts and bruises and many other "general" first aid things. Whilst this is all useful knowledge both in and out of the workplace, there was nothing really relevant to the construction/civils industry. Is anyone aware of any providers that offer more specialised first aid training for higher risk industries? Something that would focus more major bleeds, crushing, severe trauma and other more severe incidents? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciaited Stern

Morning, We work with a small company run by active NHS paramedics and they provide enhanced first aid training and covering major bleeds and major injuries in general. They include training escenarios with very good acting skills and making injuries very realistic. We've been working with them for a good couple of years now. Get in touch and I can give you their details.

Morning Stern, As the 'standard' three day First Aid at Work would cover treatment of major external bleeding (which now includes military style tourniquets ), head injuries, fractures, spinal injuries and inhalation/asphyxiation plus all the other subjects you mentioned, I am not sure what else your looking for. Just glad I don't work on one of your sites if that's not enough :)
