Hi Folks, I am working with a client that manufactures, installs & maintains large scale industrial gas fired burners and am trying to establish whether this type of operation would fall under DSEAR while working on site? Any advice would be helpful.

Hi Safe Consultant. The burners should be designed and installed to IGEM/UP/16 Design for Natural Gas Installations on industrial and commercial premises with respect to hazardous area classification and preparation of risk assessments. This will tell you everything you need to know and you can also refer to IGEM/SR/25 Hazardous are classification of Natural Gas installations. These are the documents you will conduct any assessment against to establish if it is Non Hazardous or has to have a Hazardous Zone applied.

Hi SafeConsultant Good advice on the practicalities of the scenario from John Elder, but why would you think that DSEAR might NOT apply? However, let's suppose that you don't need to apply the detail of DSEAR, what would you NOT have to do to comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, if anything?
