Hi, I'm having a grey moment?!? I'm looking a piece of legislation / ACoP that says something about storage of overalls and not taking same home with the operative to consequently affect the operatives loved ones - whats the legislation / ACoP, chapter and verse. I'm doing a report and need to complete by noon.
Does anyone know of such and can help me please? Thanks in advance. Badger

Hi Badger, that specific control sounds like the working with asbestos guidelines https://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/protect.htm Both the PPE guidelines & COSHH ACOP mention adequate storage and control of PPE to minimise contamination.

PPE regulation 7 7.—(1) Every employer shall ensure that any personal protective equipment provided to his employees is maintained (including replaced or cleaned as appropriate) in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
Seems the duty is on employer to wash. Will domestic washinging machines cope with whatever chemicals are on the overalls, as well as the things you list like exposing others. Question though are they to protect ie they are PPE or are they a uniform? only smaties know the answer.Chris

also from L25 63 The Regulations do not forbid employers from asking workers to clean their own PPE (for example, people working from home) but this should be clearly stated in the person’s contract. The employer must ensure proper cleaning instructions are provided so there is no damage, and the employer should arrange for spot checks to ensure that the PPE is suitable. As explained in paragraph 37, an employer cannot charge for PPE and this extends to cleaning costs, which means that any costs for cleaning materials should be borne by the employer.
