Hopefully this is a simple question.

Someone wants to buy a piece of electrical equipment( via a well know website). The equipment is ok, but it does not come with UK style plug. Do I:

  • Tell them not to buy it
  • Tell them to buy it but to get an adaptor as well
  • Tell them to buy it but to cut off the European plug and replace  it with a UK plug?

Any answers will be gratefully received.

Unfortunately in the global market the UK 3 pin is a bit of an anomaly so most manufacturers do not consider us when including power cables.

Where practicable I would replace the whole cable with a 3 pin "kettle lead" if possible.

If it is a fixed permanent lead then I would cut off the supplied plug and replace it with a 3 pin with suitable fuse to the rating of the equipment.

Adaptors tend not to include fuses and are often devoid of an earth connection.

Answer really depends on whether it's going to be used in a domestic or industrial application but definitely not leaving it as is and using with an adapter for the reasons mentioned earlier.
