Recent updates to the 18th Edition for electrical works require that metal clips are used to support cabling on, for example, cable tray to prevent the previously used plastic clips or cable ties melting in a fire.

Originally this was only for escape routes only but now its all wiring in case of collapse in a fire

It comes under reg 521.10.202 is there are any 18th ed savvy folk out there

My question is that does this apply only to new installations or is it retrospective too?

As an NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor for standard electrical and hazardous areas it is not retrospective. Nothing in the 18th edition is retrospective if the system was installed or modified prior to the 18th edition comming into force. It is only when you install a new installaton or add new circuits or adjust existing circuits that you have to consider what needs to be changed to meet the current standard as you are changing something.. e.g. adding sockets to an old circuit with no RCD protection should have RCD protection installed and things like that.
