Hi

I've been approached by a client asking if they could replace their current traditional fire extinguishers with the new Fire Safety Stick.  I can find information from America that says UL have not tested and therefore do not approve the use of the Fire Safety Stick in regulated environments, but I can find very little information from the UK.  I'm presuming the answer will probably be the same, that the Fire Safety Stick hasn't been tested sufficiently to allow it's use as a replacement for the legal requirements for a fire extinguisher, but I was wondering what people's opinion was on this...

Personally I never trust a company that miss-uses official pictograms such as CE and UKCA that are meant to be used solely upon the product or its labelling and not as web site promotion.

The certification is the manufacturers own Declaration of Conformity (DoC) whilst to be accredited on the UK market is dependent upon traceability back to UKAS.

Approved, Trusted & Certified are pretty bold claims to be making given the very limited documentation on the web site (mainly manufacturer documents).

"Safe to breath", "Eco-Friendly" - someone in marketing has not been reading the rule books.

Hello Dawn

Please do not be offended, but......

I confess to being very wary of your posting.

Did consider PM'ing you but wondering whether your account might be hacked and if so the message would be likely to be intercepted.

We have had what appears to be clear evidence of AI interference on these Forums in the last couple of weeks and hence your first ever posting having registered on the Forums a decade ago, seems a little odd.

However, I guess that this might be OK for putting out fires on pleasure boats off the coast of Italy but I very much doubt that trying to use this as an alternative to conventional fires is likely to go down well with the authorities in the UK until such time as there is much more certification and evidence to show that the benefits outweigh the disbenefits.

If your enquiry is actually genuine perhaps you could give us a little more information about who you are and why you would be asking. [The sort of stuff that takes either your personal knowledge or would take some time to research - time that hackers don't usually wish to waste].

This Firestick product is making some massive claims and as such I expect them to put together some very impressive evidence to back up those claims. I don’t think that they have done that. There is no evidence of it being tested by any sort of independent testing organisation. There is no description of its limitations; its basically too good to be true and I am trying to get my head around  its apparent mechanism of action. The description does not seem to make any sense: if they can create “free radical potassium” then the are probably in line for a Nobel prize in chemistry!

Just looked online and it is pretty impressive.  Used in the F1 pits.  Must have been authorised by their leaders.

Speaking from experience - that means nothing.

Firesafety - modification of a very old joke....

How many CMIOSH leaders does it take to run an F1 motor racing team?

I think that I have found something that relates to the technology behind this fire stick system a so called Condensed aerosol fire suppression system. The article describes  the theory behind it’s method of operation, and unlike the blurb on the web site makes sense. It also mentions some issues particularly with the residue the system produces-the blurb implies that the Firestick produces no residue.  This is not new technology, and it has been used to protect things like server rooms. The articles does not mention the Firestick product directly.

There is a paper on this technology here which was done by Kidde a respected manufacturer  of fire extiguishers.
