What are your safety practitioners thoughts about this? See link below.. Thorlabs.com - FeedBack
Thorlabs are dispatching complimentary so called ‘Lab snacks’ - interesting title, packaged together with the delivery of laboratory goods or parts. I assume these travel in vehicles where other dangerous good are transported?!! To make matters ‘more juicy’ some of the snacks included in the package appear expired or close to expiry date, little or no label about allergens. Some ‘Good PR’ to avoid disposal costs of products that are due to pass the shelf life by repackaging them as gifts… Did anyone come across this before? Thanks

Your link is a feedback form indicating either a SPAM post or lack of care in your attempt at raising a concern.
Either way a US firm attempting to ship foodstuffs to the EU/UK with other items should hit a block at customs when not properly declared.

Thank you for the feedback. I have linked their query forms as it included an image of their snacks that are packed and shipped together with their laboratory goods. It seems a scheme that the supplier are proud of and keen to promote. Apologies if this lead to misinterpretation. These are shipped generally from Germany, not the US and certainly pass customs, on weekly basis.

You could ask them directly about the things that they are sending. I have checked their web site The mainly supply equipment like lasers and microscopes for lab use. These items are not hazardous as such in transit, as opposed to reagents or test kits. Are the dates on the packaging Best Before Dates or Use By Dates? Use by means that the items it likely to have “gone off” after that date and might pose a risk to people consuming the product. Best before refers to items that might be a bit stale and less appetising after the posted date. Those items do not pose a significant risk to people eating them. The allergen labelling is only required if the food items (or might contain due to where it’s made) certain specified allergens. Of course nobody should ever be consuming these items in a lab. Such schemes are not unheard off in the lab supplies business. One company arranged so that when you placed orders above a certain value you got a free lab rat- a cuddly toy rat in a lab coat!

A supplier of ours sent us some stress balls shaped like a hard hat. One of mine is on display on my desk, the other was retired after being well used.
