Hello All

I’m considering taking an ISO 9001 course, but I’m not planning to become a UKAS official auditor. I’m curious if there are still significant benefits to completing the course in this case.

For those who have taken the course, did you find it valuable for your career or your organization’s quality management practices? Are there specific skills or knowledge gained that are applicable even if you’re not pursuing an auditor role?

There are many different ISO 9001 courses with differing content aimed at people aspiring to do different things (implementing it, internal auditing to it, accredited external auditing of it).  Which one are you looking at?

The one I did was an unaccredited one offered by a well-known certification body and was about internal auditing for ISO 9001 and (for this was back in the day) OHSAS 18001.  It wasn't very well delivered and I found it only moderately useful in running and doing internal audits.  I got more benefit from an in-house training session run by a quality manager and from experience of internal auditing.  The certificate looks good though for getting work, as internal auditing is a popular element of what I offer.

I've heard better things about some other ISO 9001 courses which were apparently better delivered.

It's generally the IRCA not the UKAS badge that marks out an 'official' auditor.
