Just following on from Keiran comments in another post...which has caused a few heated debates around our Office...
1. Do you as a safety professional actively sabotage plans to make a Point on safety? 2. Have you had Feedback that you had/are passively sabotaging the plans of an Organisation/Project?
From the comments around the Forum I think there have been a few who have had this Feedback... but may not be willing to admit it...
I say I am an Operations Manager who just happens to be doing safety...and in answer to my own questions in my early years (1) yes (2) yes - (qualifying Statement here I wasn't given the full Picture).
To err is human to forgive devine to repeat is stupid... can't remenber where I got that one but it isn't mine... :)

1) no - I don't think so 2) yes - I insisted a few years ago a contractor employed by the MD had training to deal with the asbestos they were removing. They did have the training, but was told later by the MD that they nearly pulled of the job and that would have cost £10k more for another company to do it. Though some time later I pointed out wasn't it good we had evidence of us doing the right thing -his face was a picture.
So it was not sabotage in my mind, but I guess they thought so at the time.

Hmmm
1] No, I don't actively sabotage plans but I do make sure that everyone working is competent. I ask for the information up front and if this is not forthcoming I ask for it at the time and many times jobs have been held up because they left their forklift licence "in the cab" or "Fred in the office has a copy he can fax over". Without sight of up to date certificates of competence for MEWPS, Forklifts, FGas registers, etc. I won't let them work. Is this active sabotage - no, I don't think so.
2] No, not really. I think everyone at work is on board. Our record is excellent, our accident rates are world class and everyone sees the benefits. Adhering to good H&S can be frustrating for others at times, but they see the benefits and I explain why I make the decisions I do and it is pretty well accepted that I generally have a point.

1, yes I have in the past, sometimes it has depended on the way they have responded to my advice.
2, Yes recently after completing a fire risk assessment I was informed that I didn't understand how a charity worked and if I continue they would end up bankrupt. I responded yes, but if you continue how you are you will be benkrupt anyway, but also in jail.
Went down like a led balloon.

1. I have in the past, but it sometimes depends on how people react to my suggestions. 2, Yes, I was recently told that I didn't understand how a charity operated and that if I continued, they would go bankrupt after performing a fire risk assessment. Yes, I said, but if you carry on like you are, you'll not only go bankrupt but also end up in jail. like a lead balloon, it collapsed.
