I understand that the 18th edition wiring regulations have been in play since Jan 19, but if certificates for electrical contractors are showing 17th editon can they still be accepted (is there a transition period for contractors to move over to the 18th edition) or has that ship sailed and 17th edition is no longer acceptable in any circumstance.

OK, as far as the electrical industry and the monitoring schemes go the scenario is as follows. Work designed to the 17th edition, i.e. prior to the 18th coming in to force on the 1st Jan 2019 can be certified to the 17th. Any work where the design is commenced after the ast Jan 19 needs to be to the 18th. Any work to the 17th which can be cost efectively design changed & implemented to be 18th compliant which was in process when the 18th came into effect is recommended to be, but, there will likely be a cost whch the client would need to bear, and would need to be by agreement of all parties. Remember also that BS 7671 compliance is not a statutory requirement. However, compliance is compulsory for scheme members (NAPIT, STROMA, ECA, NICEIC etc.) as terms of their scheme membership.
