I have a pressing issue, I have on site two machines. A standard MEWP scissor lift and a PAV scissor lift. Can I aloow an operator that has a standard MEWP/Boom ticket use both onsite, this relates to a site in ireland. As far as I understand it they can. I would appreciate anyones input on this matter.

Assuming you are using Ipaf training scheme Ipaf categories can be found following this link: https://www.ipaf.org/en-gb/resource-library/ipaf-categories

Firstly you say standard MEWP scissor then later you say MEWP boom, which is it? They are different pieces of kit and if a MEWP boom e.g. the basket booms out away from the body of the machine then it is not a scissor lift which goes up and down. Therefore the answer to your question would be no. They would need a training card for both.

If it is a standard MEWP scissor lift card they have got then the answer is yes as it is a slightly more technical piece of equipment than the PAV. However, they would require on-site familiarisation training of the PAV which can be done at delivery/handover.

If it was the other way around e.g. they had the PAV ticket and wanted to use a standard scissor then the answer would be no due to the technical reasons.

IPAF course for PAV half day, scissor full day due to the differences in complexity of use of each piece of kit.

I hope that helps.

Good Morning,

Thankyou for the replies recieved. My query was specific to a PAV, my issue was that an operator with and MEWP/Boom ticket may or maynot use a PAV. Or would they nered specific training, I am trying to resolve a site issue with a main contractor requesting traioning that is not a legislative requirement. The site rule is that the operators need to complete IPAF training to use and MEWP/Boom or PAV on site. This is the issue with the site ruls contradicting national legislative requirements, yet this happen alot on sites in Ireland.

Anyway thank you for the feedback.
