Good afternoon all,

I will have 18 years old student on week work experience.

Do I need to prepare Risk Assessment for him?

Is the same rules take affect on him like with young people? Is he not allowed practically to do anything?

Thank you in advance.

Where do you get the idea from that work experience people are not allowed to do anything?

You just look at the risk assessments that you have and see if they cover them taking into account their lack of local knowledge as you would do with any new starter.

If you are taking on work experience people and not actually giving them any experience of work you are wasting your time and their time.

Thank you for reply.

He will be placed in Engineering Department, where all electricity and maintenance activities will be carried out. He does not have any qualification, that is why I think he is only able to observe, assist or do easy, low-risk activities.

He can do other activities as long as you properly show him how to undertake them. Obviously the key factor here will be how long is he with you for. No point spending half a day training him to do something if hes only there the day.

Another thing to consider is: what would you benefit from in his place?

The point of WEX is to give people some real experience. I'd want him to finish the time at my company enriched by an experience he felt worthwhile. e will likely remember it his whole life.
