Colleagues,

My organisation are beginning to embark on the first stages of planning to build an entirely new depot from the ground up. The site has been identified, the space sort of sorted out and the feasibility  studies well underway.

My request is for any of my professional safety colleagues out there who may have experience in these sort of matters from early stages who I could have a chat with around lessons learned from the process. I am already having conversations around office spaces and vehicle movements in the design process and around building management systems and remote monitoring etc...trying to drag my organisation into the 21st century.... we are combining at least two old depots into one brand new one!

This is a golden opportunity to influence and guide my leadership team to try to build a healthy, safe and creative environment for the organisational workforce and I wont get two bites at at this cherry! I could really do with some experienced heads donating some sage advice so I can create a list of necessary matters to push and inform design bods so they are not missed. We are an organisation of around 750 with an operational mobile workforce of around 450 covering activities including refuse collection, construction, streets cleansing, property maintenance, highways and engineering works not to mention a large vehicle workshop as we service and maintain our own fleet of around 150 vehicles ranging from small cars to RCVs and HGV trucks....never a dull moment.

Any and all experiences of s similar or new depot nature gratefully accepted, nothing is out of bounds as we have a blank page to start from...exciting times!!! this is a CPD and IPD on a plate..what a challenge to rise to.. if  you shy practitioners would rather not make it for public consumption please feel free to PM me for an email address

Many Thanks in anticipation of a wealth of valuable experiences
