We are looking at a new commercial premises which has a small mezzaine with an office which is accessed by an open wooden staircase. As there is only one access point i assume this is classed as a fire escape route.
Do the stairs meet fire or building regulations?
The operations completed within the premises would be very low fire risk and there is only battery operated smoke detectors. There would only be approx 6 people in the premises at any given time

In my opinion it depends upon the mobilty of the staff and the detection systems. It should be ok as long as the staff respond quickly. It also depens upon the activities that take place within the premises. I assume that you are conducting a Fire RA.
