Hello
I could do with some input on this one! We have a coffee machine that is rented, and the topic of the Written Scheme of Examination has come up.
Would you class the Espresso machie as "mobile" or "fixed"?

Fixed,as it will hookupto mains and I presume a fixed water supply?

Yeah it is mains powered and has a mains water inlet, I was hoping this was the case, was just making sure.

2. (1) Subject to sub-paragraph (2), regulations 5(4), 8 to 10 and 14 shall not apply to a pressure system containing a relevant fluid (other than steam) if the product of the pressure in bar and internal volume in litres of its pressure vessels is in each case less than 250 bar litres.

Hi Steve, unfortunately the pressure system contains steam so it wouldn't rule it out, i was hoping to cling on to that when this landed on my desk!

It just so happens that I have been reviewing our policy for pressure systems at work. The 250 Bar Litres rule is the cut off point for when a full Written Scheme of Examination is required but the policy makes it clear that even if the vessel in question does not qualify for the full application of the pressure systems regs, PUWER still applies and there needs to be some systematic approach to inspection and maintenance but not necessarily in accordance with the pressures system regs.

Interesting, pretty sure our leased one doesn't have a written scheme but on reading the guidance I wonder if it should. I'll see if the leasing company has done one.....

But thats for everything except steam isn't it? By chance I have an inspector on site today and asked him about ours, he was of the firm opinion it needed a written scheme under PSSR. Of course asking the person who takes the money for doing work if you need work done doesn't always result in the best advice but I'm thinking given the exception for steam in the regs he's probably right.
