Hi All, I have been asked to investigate the qualifications, training and competency required to install and work on medium speed gas engines used in power generation. It my understanding that 'Gas Safe' is for domestic gas systems and that it is an offence work on domestic gas systems without being registered and qualified, but I don't know if there is an equivalent qualification for industrial gas systems. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of working industrial systems? Any advice will be appreciated.

There is no specific training for industrial equipment that I am aware of. As per my comments in the previous mentioned link (see above) Compex courses are entirely voluntary and are run on a commercial basis but would only general awareness of working around hazardous areas/ATEX equipment etc. If this involves work on a particular type/model of gas engine than I would see if the manufacturers provide technical training courses to support service/maintenance engineers. Otherwise I'm sure the manufacturers would only be to happy to provide a service contract and service engineer to carry out repairs and regular servicing of the equipment etc. As mentioned in the link the Gas Safety Instllation & User regs do not apply to industrial plant and equipment.
