Hi all
We have a cable tray running through a wall above an arched doorway leading into a baasement WC area
There is old foam fire stopping where the cable tray comes through the wall however has detrioated there are also gaps arond the wall and the cable tray
The arch doorway has not actual door so there is no compartmentation as such
My question is, is there any point to the fire stopiing if there is an open doorway underneath it?
Hope that all makes sesnse!
Cheers

Hi Mike,
From your description there really doesn't seem to be any need for the fire stopping,

Hi Mike. If I've understood the situation right, the way I'd approach this would be to determine whether that wall & door/ arch in question does in fact need to be compartmentalised (via a fire risk assessment). If it does need to be a fire resisting wall then you'd need to make sure the whole wall and arch/ door offers the correct level required (30min/ 60min).
If the wall with the open arch is currently breached then I'd leave it as it is until the above is determined. If this wall does not need to be fire resisting then there is no requirement (or need) to fill the breaches - the smoke and fire will go through the open arch anyway. Hope this helps.

mikecarr I am in aggreement with jwk it doesn't seem to be any real requirement for the fire stopping, as the smoke and flame would be engulfing the empty doorway. Didi Da Dit

If there is a bloody big hole in the wall were the archway is it would be silly to fire stop the cable tray, the idea of fire stopping is to prevent smoke travelling through the wall. Big hole is the wall i'm sure the smoke will get through.'
