Hi All,

Hope you are all keeping healthy and safe as we adapt to a new way of life.

I'm enquiring if anybody is in a similiar situation to myself and studying an MSc, with the original plan to collect data by observation/focus groups/1-1 interviews? If so, have you opted for an alternative - online or have you opted to extend your studies?

I'm unsure if there is an alternative for the observation of operation (drone activity in this scenario), focus groups - I'm unsure if I'd get gain successful momentum online with the group but may have to attempt it and I'm comforatable with 1-1 interview with industry experts online.

Any views or advice from your experience would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm currently doing a MSc research dissertation, luckily I managed to collect data before lockdown, however, some fellow students did not. I'm not sure if it was the university or the course supervisors, but we were all automatically given a 3 month extension (penalty free) which remains under review, so may get extended.

while I do not know about your study, could you not do observations at a safe distance using safety guards/PPE, if the task is still operational? I feel using a drone may cause people to act differently and introduce other challenges.

If I was you, I would speak to your supervisor and get their input.

Thanks for your reply George. Yeah, we have been offered greater flexibility regarding date of submission. Just undecided whether to opt for this or come up with alternatives! The observation is currently not feasible due to the current phase of the COVID-19 contingency plan for the organisation - no visitors including management to the stations. Everyday is a changing day, and if Government restrictions are relaxed, the contingency plan shall be updated. Yet, so many unknowns! I''ll run through it with my Supervisor!

All the best with your research.

Out of interest, which MSc program are you studying?
