I am seeing rumours that Covid-19 can be spread through airconditioning. Has anyone got any definitive or authoritative sources on this to either confirm or refute?

Limited Chinese study presumed one diner infected nine others via a restaurant ac unit. Other studies are in line with 8m laboratory condition travel and modelling showing droplets passing over supermarket shelves. There is hypothesis, theory and reality - unfortunately information vacuums tend to let hypothesis run wild. We could start setting light to air conditioning units (Joking). Remember in the UK we have many maintenance regulations that are not globally enforced.

I could not comment specifically on COVID-19 but I know in my files if I looked there are several studies showing how micro-organisms can be spread in hospitals as a result of defective filtering of air in the air conditioning system.

I think at this stage in our knowledge, it is a battle between fact and assumptions. I do think it depends on the kind of ac to some extent, e.g amount of fresh air versus recirculated, how it's set up, filtering etc.
I suppose we could always ask David Icke what he thinks about it.

Hi, I came across this HVAC guidance note from REHVA which maybe of interest. https://www.rehva.eu/fileadmin/user_upload/REHVA_COVID-19_guidance_document_ver2_20200403_1.pdf

That was an interesting read and was compatible with info from the document on the thread I started regarding entry into body. From what I have just read the answer to the OP question is Yes it can be spread around by the air con units. Chris
