I know it is difficult to assess and there is limited guidance, asd often it is based on usage / contaminants etc. therefore has anyone put together some guidance on the frequecy of changing face mask filters in covid wards in healthcare.
If so what are your changing frequencies

I'm guessing breaks, lunches etc would come before the mask usage is exceeded. Each time they break etc a new mask should be used (in my opinion)

TBH filters on half masks do not necessitate the same frequency of change as a disposable. However as we are discussing potential viral contamination then for those natural breaks throughout the day would you really want to handle a contaminated device to wear for the next work period? Most masks are assuming particulate contamination that will affect the wearers ability to breath through the filter media over time which is obviously not the case with a nano-biological. There remain however limitations on the effectiveness of active media e.g, charcoal which is exposure (to environment) dependent

in general there are manufacturers set time for filter changes - roughly 40 hours of continous use or if breakthrough...but I am sure you knew that... ;) difficulty with this is there is no notice of breakthrough...we rely on a PT may have or show the symptoms of (not brilliant as it doesn't cover carriers)...but if we are dealing with know or suspected cases each mask is changed before the next and face shield...with other PT, non-trauma we advise face shield which is cleaned between PT...we employed a similar process for Northern Africa and MERS cases...hope this helped a wee bot..
