This paper is worth reading in conjunction with the CIBSE and ASHRAE guidance on adjusting and maintaining HVAC equipment.  This was a Topic on the American Industrial Hygiene Associations forums.

we had adapated some of our assessment programs with SARS to use CFD to model the flow and possible transmission through building HVAC...it is also difficult to predict for medical Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGP) due to the small volumes (sometimes :))...
