Hi all Having a tussle with Danish scaffold contractors , they appear to think it is safe to lift 6m built tower sections similar to our Kwickstage by a 10t flt and transporting it around via the forks placed directy onto the spigget pin attachements . I am not a scaffolder so looking for someone to provide me with a sanity check that (I am not going mad). I am insisting that they provide me with the manufaturers instructions that state that a FLT fork can lift upwards on the braces and calculations to demonstrate this. I have yet received this on the account I hope I already know the answer ? In a nutshell the FLT forks are being placed directly under the bracings of a 6 m ereected tower and transported around thus saving coming back to dismantle and errect and inspect and obvioulsy to pay for. the service. Thoughts and thanks in advance Edited by user 19 July 2020 19:01:28(UTC)
| Reason: cant spell Kwick Stage very well

These contractors are working on a site in...Denmark, the UK, elsewhere?
Regulations are applicable to the location which should be reflected in the contract of engagement. The 12 pack has different interpretations by location.

Hi The Scaffold contractor are what I gather solely based in DK they are using DS/EN 1004 but the problem is is its in DK. Not to worry I will put the stop work order in today until resolved. I know there will not be any calcualtions made on stresses against and under the ledger-guardrails thats for sure because they are not designed for this prupose. I was just hoping that I could have something from the UK that I could throw to them to stop them-. But one thing is for sure you would not get away with forklift handling scaffolding tower sectioss in the UK.

Joe Have you asked them to confirm in writing that GKN Kwikstage have confirmed in writing that this practice is acceptable? I do have an old Kwikstage handbook but it's Covid'd in the office but I very much doubt that it would make mention of such an "interesting" method of moving a proprietary system scaffold. It would put stresses on the wedges and bananas that the designers could not have reasonably been expected to envisage. Next stop I guess might be the idea of slinging around the ledgers and again, whoever is asked to sign off the Temporary Works is going to be in a very uncomfortable corner. P
