Hi, when a contractor comes to our site (manufacturing), presume we should be asking them for their COVID Risk Assessment, or would "policy" do? We have ours, plus mentioned at site induction.

Given the uncertainties about what constitutes a COVID-19 risk assessment (if there is any such thing at present) I would suggest that a COVID-19 policy is far more useful.

I don't ask for any such thing - I ask for their RAMS, and expect to see that they have included Covid risk and precautions in it.

More important is probably what you are already doing which is telling them your expectations while they are on your site.

I agree with Kate - i think we are getting two hung up by stupid government advice at teh moment - for me when i bring a contractor in i want to know, what they are doind, where they are doing it and how this affects my buisness - in particular how are we going to maintain social distancing around my site - does the contractor know my new "one way system" which they will not have seen even if they know my site. Also what changes might i need to make to ensure my collegues are safe. Remember in accordance with thge management regs its about co-operation and shareing not just getting RAMS and everyone doing their own thing.

I did have a consultant come in the other day to look at an issue for me, he presented me with a declaration that he had not had symptoms or knowingly been in contact with people who have had sysptoms - a little like some food companies will do with reguard to certain food poisoning types. As none of us are sopposed to go into work if we have sysmptoms Im not sure how much use the bit of paper was. In terms of RAMS he could not provide any as thats what he was there to do - but i stayed with him (no cloer than 2m) during the visit so he could quote me for the work.

..............thanks for all of the above, if refered to in thier "work" risk assessments etc. this might be the best way forward (what they are doing, cleaning down, distancing etc.).  Thanks.

Your site, your controls - why should I try and second guess what you may or may not say and document that in either a health policy or risk assessment?

Our RAMS (not a legal requirement) identify that our personnel visiting others should make themselves aware of site requirements and practices through involvement with the sites induction or attendance rules - and on that basis we have not added anything to address the recent pandemic as we have no influence on your site rules or your site controls other than our right to refuse to attend.

As per another post we do not participate in the biosafety theatre of temperature checking. Nor do we insist on employees devoid of medical qualification declare themselves to be free from symptoms.

Do you also ask them for their influenza risk assessment? After all, influenza kills a significant number of people each year and is also contagious.

We have always asked for how contractors deal with High Consequence Infectous Diseases there are a number of influenzas on that list...it is just that now it is starting to filter down to non-specialised environments...as our weekly dashboard covers all HCID which includes MERS but doesn't currently include SARS Cov2...we include it for business contingency planning...
