Hi,

On a site I'm looking after, I've got two concrete attenuation tanks which require pumps to be installed.

Tanks are approx 3m high with access point on top (access point is 600 x 900 mm). The problem is that the headroom above the access is only 1.2m, which seems to be too low for any A-frame to be installed. In addition, on one of the tanks, the access is tight to the front corner of the tank, meaning there is only 100mm concrete to two sides of the access hatch.

I have very limited experience of this, and cannot see how the works can be carried out safely. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi Prowse

You have identified a problem, the extent of which will be dependent on what is in each tank and other variables including the need for access - as example it might be possible to lower the pumps in (and remove them for maintenance etc) without the need for anyone to go in.

Suggest you discuss with the design team what needs to be done and ask them how THEY propose this can be done safely.

Thanks for your reply. The design seems terrible on these tanks. They are designed to collect rainwater, with the pumps intended to be permanently present. I think you're correct though, the solution needs to be in the hands of someone mechanically trained. Thanks for your response.
