Hey all, ive been in h&s for about 18 months now and just obtainrd a new position. However, I could use some help with the following I am the safety officer for an 80 acre site that currently runs 24/5 on weekdays and shuts for weekends. I am trying to ensure that the fire mngmnt is up to scratch but one of my concerns is how to best direct 3rd party security in dealing with fire alarm activations. False alarms are common due to the last H&S officer not consulting our fire advisor/risk assessor and speccing beam detectors and air sampling in a dusty atmosphere rather than thermal/heat detection equipment as advised by our assessor. Previously the H&S officer came too site to investigate all alarm activations, but he did this off his own back, without pay for callouts. I wish to be more proactive and ensure those in relevant positions are trained to deal with activations. However, I am aware that we must ensure the security guys are trained and agree to the procedure. Has anyone else dealt with this type of scenario and could share their experiences?
