after an incident on one of our sites the question was asked is there a maximum height to
using a Ginny wheel and rope to lift equipment, in this case scaffold material. Tubes and boards.

Hi Alan - I think the simple answer to your question is NO. Like most things it will be dependent on multiple variables. But the higher you lift the more chance that the load will become loose (for one or more of many possible reasons), be caught by high winds etc etc. All of which means that it comes down to having an appropriately thought out "lift plan", and not leaving it to e.g. the scaffolders to default to a cheap and cheerful solution. ...and the lift plan should take account of what is to be done over a period of days, weeks and months, not simply when a scaffold is being erected and dismantled. So, as example, if you are going to need to lift materials onto the scaffold when it has been erected, why not erect the goods hoist progressively as the scaffold goes up?
