I have tried to see if this has been asked before but couldn't find what I was looking for. We are currently working on our offering of equipment to staff who may work from the office a couple of days a week and then at home for 2-3 days. Do we offer the full range of equipment as if they are a home based worker or a slightly lesser offering? What if they only work one day a week or less at home? (I have my approach but my organisation wants to know what others are doing) Also what about specialist equipment that can be expensive? Do people provide it in more than one location for the employee?

Any visible form of discrimination between workers essentially conducting the same task whether one, two, three, four or five days will leave the company exposed in the event of claim. Where it is a very expensive piece of kit these become the people who contractually cannot work from home and must come to the office - even if it is on a rota e.g. two days on the expensive kit / three days home.

Temporarily neglecting Covid:
We distinguish between people depending upon whether they requested to work from home, or whether the company wants them to work from home.
That is, we provide the 'full' equipment set necesary for a safe and healthy workstation at every place where the company wants the person to work. For some people, this is multiple locations and for some of them one of the locations (or the only location) is their home.
For the majority of the staff, however, the place they are required to work is at the office, and they are permitted to work at home at their request (subject to an approval process).
For a location where they are permitted to work at their request, we expect them to provide some necesary facilities and equipment. We provide the same standard of IT kit (computer, screens, monitor arms, whatever mouse and keyboard they need etc but not print or scan equipment) as at the office but we expect the employee to provide suitable furniture (including chair and suitable desk). If they can't provide suitable to pass the DSE assessment, then they don't get approval to work at home. If they need something that's in the office (e.g. an A0 printer) they need to work in the office for the duration of that need.
All of the above is thrown somewhat into disaray by Covid, but soon we'll be back to normal....
