Dear All, I work in a manufacturing firm and we use OCTAGONAL BULK CONTAINER (thick cardboard) to store scraps reels and send them to another site to be reused. We currently fill these and stack on top of each other and double stretch wrap them.
Personally I do not like the idea of stacking them on top of each other as the cardboard may weaken under environmental conditions (rain, humidity etc) resulting in a significant risk of the stacked containers collapsing. Also we had a near miss where stacked container collapsed when an operator tried to cut open the stretch wrap that was wrapped around it and the rolls fells off nealry hitting the operator. Can anyone advise me a suitable alternative to this? Would like to know what other companies use to store scrap reels?

If they are being re-used rather than sent to waste stream ideally you should be protecting them from environmental conditions. An idea on sizeof these reels may elicit wider response I can't recall the EU supplier but if you search "SnapCrate" - these are plywood cases which when empty for return shipping can be folded down to the height of two pallets. Eliminate plastic wrap waste and can be opened in several ways for loading/unloading.
