Can anyone help? We potentially have a Chinese construction company joining our construction project. We plan to have project safety documentation translated into Manadarin. Does anyone know of any useful websites that has information on managing Chinese contractors? Or is anyone aware if the HASAWA and any regulations have been translated into Mandarin?

Please can you say why you have foreign nationals, not English speaking, coming to work on an English building site?  I have experience of Polish labourers on site but they included one who spoke English and he translated to his Polish colleagues and we never had any problems, in fact they were exemplorary in their standards.

You could do similar and ask for an English speaking translater.

A previous experience of such workers proved that a smiling nodding face, even one saying yes, is merely being polite rather than indicating any form of actual understanding.

Hi, Our business is Chinese owned, we are one of the companies in the organisation as are the Chinese construction company. We already have translators, but do not want to rely on verbal communications alone. Hence the need to translate all the project documentation and have access to (if any exist) pertinent regulations in Mandarin.

There is a very popular word processor that translates from English to many languages, I just had a look and Mandarin is not included but there are a couple of "Chinese" languages on the list.

I just tried it and amazed to see the chinese writing appear in the document.

I have used this to translate into French on one occasion and also from French to English.  I found some differences inside the document where words were no translated to what I expected but in the main it did work.

I hope this helps.
