Happy New Year to everyone. Has anyone used the CIP Knowledge manual as the basis for their Health Safety & Environmental Management Manual? With limited resources i am looking at making the management of these functions that little bit easier but remaining fully legally compliant.

Hi Allan - HNY. I haven't but then the last time I looked at this Manual CIP had its previous name - but it was always considered a very good reference Manual for contractors with support for its content from the HSE - so why NOT? Now that it is available in electronic format, it could save a lot of time - there is little point in rewording guidance to form part of a bespoke health and safety management system if instead you can simply provide links to authoritative guidance such as that published by CIP, HSE, and others (e.g. Environment Agency/SEPA). Which means that the management system can concentrate on YOUR processes, rather than the detail of specific standards to be applied depending on each risk issue. In my last employment we used OHSIS - Occupational Health and Safety Information Service published by Technical Indexes (now IHS Markit) - that gave all our staff access to a range of guidance including from the likes of CIRIA, not only on HS and E issues, but on other technical matters.
