UK Covid Post Feb/March 2022 - What are you going to do?

In light of the fact that virtually all govt mandated CV controls are going to be removed from February/March, what are individual businesses going to do to maintain controls in the workplace? Or, are you planning on following the guidance and treating it as an endemic disease and treat it no differently than the flu?

When the government lifts all of the current legal restrictions we will continue to do what we have done for the last eight weeks or so. So we will trust our employees to act in a common sense way, so face coverings can be worn when it is though appropriate, people will continue to be as close or as far from each other as they feel comfortable with, our employees will continue to regularly wash their hands and use a sanitiser. Our drivers and mobile engineers will continue to follow the rules laid down by our customers and we will ask people who come to our depots to wear face coverings if they feel that it is appropriate. In addition we will continue to encourage everyone to do twice weekly lateral flow tests and to act in accordance with the test result. I know that this may be a bit of a light touch to many out there but, it has worked for us.

Twice weekly lateral flow testing, without symptoms, just for the sake of it? Doesn't sound like a light touch to me, sounds excessive?

"Encourage" instead of "require" does make this light touch (and in my opinion rightly so).

I read yesterday that the tests may not be free after next week! Another fly in the ointment!

The Department of Health distributed millions of LFD kits to certain employers (schools colleges etc). Emails are now circulating indicating that they want the spares back and even warning that they should stop distributing them. So it looks like they are retrenching; not sure what for though.

The question I want answering, from the HSE/government is what to do if a person presents at work with all the symptoms? We don't pay sick pay (beyond ssp), so this is likely to happen throughout the manufacturing sector, and all other low paying sectors. I know the directors won't sanction sending them home on full pay, so that isn't an option (blame them, not me). So if we then have an outbreak that causes somebody to get extremely ill, or even die, would we be seen as liable? Obviously, this assumes that we would ever have been found liable during the pandemic, which I doubt.
As always the whole thing is poorly communicated, ill thought out and pays no respect to the people who are actually effected by the decisions.

“Obviously, this assumes that we would ever have been found liable during the pandemic, which I doubt.” Well that’s always been the question that nobody dared to answer.

According to the "experts" a new potentially more virulent than Omnicron variant is on the way. Or are they calling back all the single use plastic in the test kits before the new tax arrives because someone forgot to check the content was greater than 30% recycled?

Follow your company policy, no matter how poor in avoiding presenteeism - you can only work with what you are presented, not what you would like.

Unless as Round says a new varient comes along the argument seems to be that covid should now be treated like flu - which lets remember can be implicated in 10K deaths a year (i wont say kills as its often a combination of things just like covid) and we have never routinley actively sent people home who have signs of flue as far as i know.
