Dear Forum,

can you recommend any retired HSE inspectors or other likely auditors who would review a company's competence management process?

I am not after consultancies trying to sell their software or your typical certification audit. I have already asked our insurers, but wanted to try here too:

Trying to look for a credible expert making a judgment to see if a company's competence process was effective enough to protect from potential liability.

Just like with Risk Assessment being suitable & sufficient with competency only a court can decide based upon the evidence presented at the time.

You need to provide a little bit of a wider brief even to secure someone to have a look see.

For example what sector is the business in?

Is it low level transactional (e.g. retail/fast food) or highly technical specification based sales (e.g. Nuclear)?

Is it a regulated / heavily regulated industry?

Only problem in searching for competence is a default to exams/certificates/cards which demonstrate education but do not necessarily determine the experience and skills in applying said edcuation.

CdC - if choosing an ex HSE Inspector I would be looking for a VERY ex HSE Inspector who has got beyond ripping systems to bits usually after an incident (with lots of potential hindsight bias) to dealing with such systems on a day to day practical level to learn what works and what doesn't.

The views of a VERY ex HSE Inspector (but I am not looking for the work!).
