Theatre lighting in schools - inspection frequency

Hi, I understand fixed wiring in school theatres are 3 yearly but it's not clear what other maintenance regimes are advised such as the spotlights and supporting bars. Grateful for guidance.

Trifle, If the spotlights are permanent wired into the supply, they will need a planned preventative maintenance programme for inspection/examination/testing under EWR. However, it is common to include them on the ECIR assessment and undertake them at the same time. If they are plugged in then they are portable equipment and should be maintained as such (PAT testing etc.). The support beam, if fixed in place should be inspected periodically under PUWER. Perhaps every couple of years. If the beam can be lower/raised then it will fall under LOLER and statutory examinations will be required of the lifting equipment, and possibly the beam itself as it may be classed as a lifting beam. I assume you are clear on the maintenance requirements with regard to Fire Safety (fire alarms, emergency light etc.) as this really is a given. Hope it helps, Tony.
