Good morning,

I have been trying to find accident statistics/safety performance stats for the oil and gas industry UK. Specifically onshore refineries (Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery). I cannot seem to find anything, any pointers?

Thank you.

Trade associations often have this kind of information to share with their members.

OGUK,  (Oil & Gas UK), may have stats for the industry as a whole, but not many company's will publish individual sites to the general public.  Their annual reports tends to show totals for the company etc.

RIDDORS and COMAH Incidents would be searchable on the HSE website which is probably about as site specific as you'll get.

Apologies, my issue is finding statistics for refinery's onshore, the only information I can find is offshore. I don't need it to be specific to a company (Reading back I didn't make that very clear). It's for a short presentation, I'm tempted to use just offshore oil and gas statistics but I'm not sure this would be a true reflection.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi Markhay

If you were to download the Sustainability Reports for a few major oil and gas companies they will give you what they have recorded but with statistics integrated for both on and offshore (assuming that they do both) and for global operations if they operate in multiple geographies.

But even those stats won't help you that much as it is unlikely that the reports will cover supply chain incidents.

The numbers provided could be measured against UK RIDDOR, or for most more likely OSHA criteria ("recordables") but supposing you have:

A rate given for OSHA recordables

The relevant numbers of incidents involving contractors working at an operator's site are likely to be MUCH larger and even the rates may be higher.

So, very difficult to see the full picture.

If you check the stats on the HSE website, there is a spreadsheet at www.hse.gov.uk/statistics which does look at accident numbers and rates for different sectors. Whether onshore oil and gas is specifically mentioned I am not sure.
