I have a colleague who completed a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety under the Australian qualifications framework which is the equivalent of an SCQF level 6 - 7 (level 3 NVQ) here in the UK.

He also has 5 years experience in H&S through various roles in the Oil and Gas industry as Safety Advisor etc.

My question to the Forum is;

1. Is this qualification recognised by IOSH to allow him TechIOSH status?

2. Will this level of exposure and experience also count towards TechIOSH status?

I appreciate that there has been review of the membership grades which may have affected the acceptance criterion but any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Dave

This is one which needs a question to IOSH Membership Department.

....or possibly IOSH Singapore Branch - which at least until recently had someone from Oz on its Executive Committee.

However, in the main the benchmarks to compare against in terms of the academic criteria for Tech IOSH and Grad IOSH are European Qualifications Framework.Levels.

There is a document on the internet that provides guidance as to where Scottish qualifications compare with EQF.

Note that the rules for membership have not yet changed, so it might be a case of "get in quick", though the proposed changes don't actually mean very much in terms of he academic criteria.

Hi Dave

To quote a reply from "Team IOSH" to another thread commenting on difficulties in getting in touch with IOSH.

"Hello, please call on this number +44 (0) 116 3500 800. Alternatively, you can email csc@iosh.com with your name, membership number and phone number, and the team will call you back."

Hope he will have more luck.
