All does anyone have a worked example risk assessment for vehicle movements in and around workshops they could share?  I am interested in what control measures have been used and any ideas or initatives that we could use that are cost effective.

The relevant control measures and ideas for a variety of situations are described in the HSE guidance document HSG136.

Motor Vehicle (inc. Repair) workshops?

Cars / Vans / Lorries / FLT's / Pedestrian Transporters?

More likely to get suitable responses if you accurately define the target of your enquiry.

Controls used for HGV's / FLT's:

1) No pedestrian access in the yard area away from designated walkways (employee car park at opposite side of building)

2) Delivery HGV's on allocated time slots - no entry to the yard if occupied

3) On entering yard keys surrendered, steering wheel locked, vehicle wheels chocked

4) Curtains opened / straps removed - driver taken to rest area

5) Off-load or load complete driver invited back to vehicle

6) Straps applied if necessary / curtains closed

7) Wheel chocks & steering wheel lock removed

8) Keys returned to driver

9) Vehicle exits site - gate closed until ready for next vehicle.

Within the site again pedestrians follow designated walkways

FLT's equipped with "blue light" perimeter - driver under strict instruction to stop if zone breached.

All other staff instructed to avoid entering zone.

To talk to an FLT driver their attention must be attracted - only when they have turned off the FLT will the driver call their colleague over. Driver is not permitted to restart the FLT until the pedestrian has exited the zone.
