I've been asked to look at what needs to be in place before a company occupies a new to them building with regards to H&S. The building is a new build.

My list starts with

Fire RA, Fixed wiring inspection, copy of Certificate of occupancy

Can anyone help with other aspects they should be looking for?

Hi Mark

At the top of my list would be the CDM Health and Safety File(s) and Operations & Maintenance Manuals.

As you did not specify the type of building and its intended use (shop, office, factory, warehouse or combination):

Lighting

Heating/ventilation

Welfare toilets/rest rooms/locker rooms/drying rooms (for yard operations)

Legionella control (sample points & dead legs)

Access / egress routes, access control, traffic segregation both in the building and externally/yard areas

Disabled facilities and provision (given this is a new build)

Protection of gas meter / mains

Protection of air compressors / receivers

The Fire Risk Assessment is typically going to be a work in progress until fully occupied.

I was being a bit vague with my description due to the work they carry out. Not everyone like/approves of it.

But after a quick walk around the building last week, it is a few weeks away from handover. So lighting, heating,AC,  etc etc are all in place. Security systems are being programmed this week.

But all the above ideas have been taken onboard and looked into. The only real issue outstanding is the FRA but that will be conducted once fully occupied.
