We have just bought a mitre saw for use in our workshop (Metabo brand) but there isnt any vibration data provided. They say that it is because it "is not a hand held machine"

According to the The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 it states that:

"Instructions

The instructions must give the following information concerning vibrations transmitted by portable hand-held and hand-guided machinery:

• the vibration total value to which the hand-arm system is subjected, if it exceeds 2.5 m/s2. Where this value does not exceed 2.5 m/s2, this must be mentioned,

• the uncertainty of measurement."

The saw is not portable like a drill etc, but it is mobile, and I would suggest hand held / hand guided too in its use.

Certainly by lowering the handle (by hand) to make the cut, there will be vibration transmitted from the machine to the hand and arm.

What do others think?

I have in the meantime found another similar machine / tool which does have that data and used that (and logged that fact on my RA). It does show a 22hr EAV so, its not going to be an issue, its simply the principle.
