Has anyone had experience with Exo Skeletons? Are they the next fad or are they a good development?

There is an article publish last year from the National Institutes of Health, in the USA which gives an overview of what they think i.e. they will be following a US approach. Or there is this from our friends at the Grange ( that’s IOSH!). I don’t think anyone has gotten as far as proper guidance let alone legislation but working from first principles( i.e. duties under Health and Safety at Work Act ) it might be possible to come up with some sort of rules but there seems to be many different systems out there and each will probably require a different approach.

We trialled one for dry lining trades a few years ago - using it across wall fixers, ceiling fixers, plasterers and jointers. The idea being that once we had trialled it across the four specialisms we would carry out further trials on the one that gave the most positive response. Perhaps not surprisingly the ceiling fixers gave the post positive feedback as this activity invloves a lot of work overhead. Indeed they said they found a positive benefit from it for certain tasks, however it was found that less was fixed when wearing the exoskeleton for a given time period than when it wasn't worn. Oveall, despite the positive feedback, the fixers were reluctant to use the exoskeleton due to the self-weight of it and mobility restrictions imposed by it.
